WHAT IS A BREAST LIFT? - BREAST SURGERY
A breast lift or “mastopexy” is a surgical procedure where breasts are elevated and shaped.
The procedure involves removing excess skin in order to reposition the nipple and areola (pigmented area around the nipple) to a higher position.
The objective is to eliminate breast sagging.
IS THIS PROCEDURE SUITABLE FOR ME? - BREAST SURGERY
Your suitability will be determined by a surgeon’s examination in which the surgeon will take the necessary measurements to establish if a breast lift is required.
Factors such as pregnancy, weight loss and breast feeding can all affect the shape and firmness of your breasts.
Even if you are happy with the size of your breasts, you may still consider a breast lift if:
- Your breasts have sagged or lost shape or volume
- Your breasts lack substance or firmness
- One breast is lower than the other
- Your breasts have become elongated
- Your nipples fall below the breast crease
- Your nipples and areolas point downward
- You have stretched skin and enlarged areolas
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS? - BREAST SURGERY
Breast lift surgery can give your breasts a more youthful look and feel. This procedure can make your breasts look firmer and more uplifted.
The visible benefits are that your breasts will look fuller and more firm, in this way a breast lift can help restore a more youthful appearance.
A breast lift does not increase the size of your breasts, which is ideal if you want to regain the shape without increasing the size of your breasts.
ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPES OF BREAST LIFT SURGERY? - BREAST SURGERY
Yes. Depending on the surgeons recommendation there are several different types of breast lift surgery which can be performed. The type of surgery will depend on the extent of ptosis (which is the medical term for sagging or dropping).
The types of surgery performed can range from a relatively simple procedure such as a ’Crescent Breast Lift’ if the sagging is mild to a ’Full Mastopexy Breast Lift’ for more severe ptosis.
HOW DO I KNOW WHICH PROCEDURE IS RIGHT FOR ME? - BREAST SURGERY
A consultation with the surgeon will be able to determine which procedure is best for you and suitable for your needs. This consultation will take into account factors such as your medical history and condition, and will enable you to come to an informed decision.
WILL IT LEAVE A SCAR? - BREAST SURGERY
The incisions from your breast lift surgery will heal and fade over time. Fortunately, the incisions for your breast lift are in locations which are easily concealed by clothing.
Although scarring may never become totally undetectable; the scarring will gradually fade in the months following the surgery.
Of course, the exact location of the scar will depend on the type and extent of the surgery you have and this can be discussed with the surgeon before you proceed.
HOW LONG WILL THE RESULTS LAST? - BREAST SURGERY
Unless you lose or gain a significant amount of weight or become pregnant, your new breast shape should last for quite a few years. However the effects of aging eventually alter the shape and size of most women’s breasts.
To achieve the best results possible, you should adhere to the surgeon’s post-surgical recommendations.
HOW LONG WILL THE PROCEDURE TAKE? - BREAST SURGERY
This will depend on the extent of the surgery; but usually the procedure itself takes between 1 and 3 hours.
WILL I EXPERIENCE ANY PAIN? WHAT KIND OF POST-OPERATIVE CARE CAN I EXPECT? - BREAST SURGERY
During the procedure you will be under general anaesthesia. However, you may experience some pain and discomfort after the surgery as your body heals. You can expect to be sore, swollen and bruised and you should follow the surgeon’s instructions with regard to post op care. After the surgery you will be given painkillers to help with any pain and discomfort you may be feeling.

HOW LONG WILL I NEED TO STAY IN BUDAPEST? - BREAST SURGERY
We recommend you stay for 5-7nights depending on the type of breast lift surgery you undergo.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME? HOW LONG BEFORE I AM ACTIVE AGAIN? - BREAST SURGERY
This can vary and can take anything from two to four weeks. You are recommended to take at least a portion of this recovery time off work.
You are encouraged to start moving around the following day after surgery and can partake in gentle exercise not long after. However, you should not attempt any strenuous exercise for a minimum of 3 weeks post-surgery and you should not attempt to lift any heavy objects for a minimum of 10 days or until your surgeon specifies.
Other than that you can return to your normal everyday activities after two to three weeks.
Recovery periods can vary between patients and are dependent upon factors such as age, state of health, the procedure undertaken and your own bodies healing ability.
CAN A BREAST LIFT BE COMBINED WITH OTHER PROCEDURES? - BREAST SURGERY
Yes. Breast lift surgery may be performed by itself or in conjunction with breast augmentation and the insertion of breast implants. It can also be part of a full body makeover and can be successfully combined with other procedures such as liposuction contouring, abdominoplasty, etc.
