BREAST AUGMENTATION

WHAT IS BREAST AUGMENTATION? - BREAST SURGERY

Breast augmentation mammoplasty (sometimes commonly referred to as breast enlargement or a ‘boob job’) is a surgical procedure performed to increase the size and fullness of your breasts.
There are a number of options available nowadays to increase the size of your breasts but the most widely known involves the placement of artificial breast implants. Our surgeons use silicone gel implants that are filled with a soft, elastic jelly-like material which feels similar to natural breasts.
The other option available is known as fat transfer (autologous fat transfer or lipofilling) which is viewed as a more a natural alternative to breast implants. With this option, breasts are filled with fat harvested from another part of your body.

IS THIS PROCEDURE SUITABLE FOR ME? - BREAST SURGERY

You may consider breast augmentation if
  • You wish to increase the size and volume of your breasts
  • Your breasts lack substance or firmness
  • Your breasts have sagged, lost shape, or volume due to weight reduction or pregnancy
  • Reconstruction after mastectomy or injury
  • Your breasts cause you emotional issues; for example you are continually self-conscious of the size of your breasts.

Factors such as pregnancy, weight loss and breast feeding can all affect the shape and size of your breasts. Your suitability for the procedure will be determined by a surgeon’s consultation which will take into account factors such as your medical history and condition. It is important that you have realistic expectations of what the surgery can do.
The consultation with the surgeon will enable you to come to an informed decision.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS? - BREAST SURGERY

You breasts will be larger and fuller which in turn could enhance your self-image and boost your self-confidence.
Any emotional issues attached to your breast size should be eradicated.
The procedure can make breasts larger, firmer, and shapelier.

WILL IT LEAVE A SCAR? - BREAST SURGERY

The incisions from your breast augmentation surgery will heal and fade and should become less noticeable over time. Of course, your surgeon will endeavour to make the incisions as inconspicuous as possible.
Fortunately, the incisions for such surgery are in locations which are easily concealed by clothing. Although scarring may never become totally undetectable; the scarring should gradually fade in the months following the surgery.
The exact location of the scar will depend on the type and extent of the surgery you have, and this can be discussed with the surgeon before you proceed.

HOW LONG WILL THE RESULT LAST? - BREAST SURGERY

The results of breast augmentation surgery will be long-lasting.
However the effects of aging eventually alter the shape and size of most women’s breasts.
To achieve the best results possible, you should adhere to the surgeon’s post-surgical recommendations.

HOW LONG WILL THE PROCEDURE TAKE? - BREAST SURGERY

This will depend on the extent of the surgery; but usually the implant procedure takes between 1 and 3 hours. Fat transfer takes approximately 3 hours or more.

Implants

The most common area where implants are inserted and incisions are made is the inframammary fold (just below the breast where it meets the chest), around the areola (nipple area) or from the armpit or axillary area.
Usually, there are two areas where the implants are placed. This can be under the breast tissue itself (sub glandular placement between the breast tissue and the pectoral muscle layer), or between the pectoral muscle layer and the ribs (sub muscular placement)

Fat transfer

There are two procedures involved in this surgery; harvesting and placement. The first involves removing the fat from the donor area by liposuction. The fat is then processed by centrifugation to separate unwanted components.
The second part of the procedure involves injecting the fat into the breasts which is performed in small increments to ensure the best outcome.

WILL I EXPERIENCE ANY PAIN? WHAT KIND OF POST-OPERATIVE CARE CAN I EXPECT? - BREAST SURGERY

During the procedure you will be under general anaesthesia. However, you may experience some pain and discomfort after the surgery as your body heals. You can expect to be sore, swollen and bruised and you should follow the surgeon’s instructions with regard to post op care.
We provide private, self-catering accommodation with first class post-operative nursing care. Our English speaking nurses are highly trained and experienced in cosmetic surgery and your daily visits are organized immediately after discharge. These visits take into consideration, your needs and are timed at your convenience.

HOW LONG WILL I NEED TO STAY IN BUDAPEST? - BREAST SURGERY

We recommend you stay for 4 to 5 nights depending on the extent of the surgery you undergo.

WHAT IS THE RECORVERY TIME? HOW LONG BEFORE I AM ACTIVE AGAIN? - BREAST SURGERY

Recovery periods can vary between patients and are dependent upon factors such as age, state of health, the procedure undertaken and your own bodies healing ability.
You are recommended to take at least a portion of your recovery time off work.

Implants

You can expect to experience some tightness in your breasts for about two to three weeks following the operation.
During the three months following the operation you are recommended to refrain from exposure to direct sunlight or solarium usage and to refrain from sports to avoid dislocation of the implants.
Following the operation you will receive a flexible bandage which is to be worn for a week.
The bandage will be replaced by an elastic sports bra which should be worn for an additional five weeks to allow the implants to settle.

Fat transfer

Downtime for this procedure is not as long as it is with implants.
However, full recovery may take longer since both the breasts and the donor site must heal.
A small waterproof dressing is applied to the injection sites post-surgery which you will be required to wear for ten 10 days. You will be required to wear a supportive sports bra at least 3 days a week and are advised to avoid vigorous exercise for approximately three weeks.
Where you have been treated with liposuction you will need to wear a compression garment for three weeks and again, avoid strenuous exercise while wearing it.
