HOW DOES MATISSE FRACTIONAL LASER WORK? - LASER SKIN
A laser is a beam of light radiation delivering intense energy in the form of thousands of micro-columns to a specific area of the skin(up to 1,5 mm in depth). The laser heats the dermis, causing an immediate coagulation or 'skin tightening' effect while at the same time stimulating the production of new collagen, making your skin toner, more elastic and more youthful in appearance.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MATISSE? - LASER SKIN
Matisse laser skin remodelling can improve the appearance of the skin and is most effective for:
- decreasing the appearance of superficial wrinkles
- tightening the skin
- treating pigmented lesions such as melasma, lentigines and dyschromia
- smoothing rough skin
- improving the look of shallow acne or chickenpox scars
- Rosacea
Generally speaking, Matisse laser skin remodelling is not effective in treating very deep wrinkles, sagging skin, or extra fat. A surgical facelift is a much better option.
THE MATISSE LASER TREATMENT - LASER SKIN
Matisse Laser skin remodelling is usually carried out under local anaesthetic, which means that the whole area to be treated will be numb, but the patient will remain awake. If necessary, the anaesthetist can also administer a sedative injection, which will induce feelings of relaxation and drowsiness.
If the whole face is to be treated, or another cosmetic procedure such as eyelid surgery is being carried out at the same time, a general anaesthetic may be advised. In this case the patient will sleep throughout the whole procedure and of course experience no discomfort.
Before the procedure is started, the whole face will be cleaned thoroughly. The surgeon will then pass a laser beam over the area to be treated, precisely controlling the depth of penetration of the laser. The procedure will take anything from a few minutes up to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated.
AFTER THE MATISSE TREATMENT, WHAT HAPPENS TO THE SKIN? - LASER SKIN
For about 24-48 hours following the treatment, the skin may appear as if you have had a slight sunburn. Makeup can be used to cover these red areas within an hour after the treatment. After about 48 hours, the skin color may turn a bit bronze in color and this may last for about another 2 weeks. It's recommended that you use a good hydrating day and night cream to keep your face moist and to help speed up the healing process. The remodelling process in the skin starts immediately after the treatment and continues onwards up to about 6 months post treatment. With additional Matisse laser treatments, it's possible to increase the effect of the first treatment.
DECIDING ON TREATMENT - LASER SKIN
Matisse laser skin remodelling is a frequently-performed and generally a very safe procedure. However, it is necessary to be aware of the possible side-effects, which may include:
- reddness and swelling in the treated areas that may last for a few days
- scarring and infection is very rare
Bear in mind that although wrinkles or scars may subside after only one laser session, further treatments may be needed to complete the therapy. Also, the effect of laser remodelling on wrinkles is not permanent, since the ageing process continues as normal after the procedure.
