WHAT IS AN X-RAY/CT SCAN? - COSMETIC DENTISTRY
Before almost any dental procedure is carried out you will more often than not be required to have an X-ray or CT scan. X-rays have long been used for medical imaging to show up issues in the skeletal system. Dental X-rays can be used to detect oral problems such as cavities.
Having an X-ray will enable the dental surgeon to assess the health of your teeth.
A CT scan is a form of X-ray known as ‘computed tomography’.
This type of X-ray shows the body's interior structures as a three-dimensional image and can be used to identify problems in the bones of the face. CT scans are often used in dentistry to evaluate bone for the placement of dental implants and difficult extractions. This helps the surgeon avoid any possible complications during and after a surgical procedure.
HOW LONG DOES A SCAN OR X-RAY TAKE? - COSMETIC DENTISTRY
A CT scan or X-ray only takes a few minutes. From start to finish, taking into account positioning etc., the whole process should take no longer than 20 minutes.
