WHAT IS A TOOTH EXTRACTION? - COSMETIC DENTISTRY

Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth; this can be necessary due to decay but can be for a variety of other reasons such as damage or an abscessed tooth.

WILL I EXPERIENCE ANY PAIN DURING OR AFTER TREATMENT? - COSMETIC DENTISTRY

Normally tooth extraction is performed under a local anaesthetic. This numbs the area where the tooth will be removed so you should not experience any pain. In some cases, for example if there is a lot of work to be done or several teeth need to be removed, then the extraction may be performed under a general anaesthetic.
You can expect to experience some discomfort even after a simple extraction. Usually any discomfort is mild and will dissipate after a few days. Surgical extractions can cause more pain than simple extractions. Your dentist may prescribe pain medicine but generally most pain or discomfort disappears after a few days.

HOW LONG BEFORE I CAN RETURN TO NORMAL ACTIVITIES? - COSMETIC DENTISTRY

Most patients are advised to take it easy for the first 24 hours while the anaesthetic is wearing off and bleeding is coming to an end. You should be able to return to routine activities the next day.
