Traveling by Hydrofoil

From early April to the beginning of November, hydrofoils run twice daily along the Danube between Vienna and Budapest. Operated by MAHART KfT, the hydrofoils depart at 9am and 1pm (during high season) with the journey downriver taking roughly five hours. Some services also stop in the Slovakian capital Bratislava (but normally only on the Budapest to Vienna journey). The hydrofoil travels along the scenic Danube bend, passing the historic Hungarian city of Esztergom, before docking near the centre of Budapest.

For those with time to spare, wanting to enjoy the scenic Danube, this is a relaxing and interesting way to arrive in Budapest. Drinks and snacks are served throughout the journey. As with flights to Budapest, there is a fixed luggage allowance for each passenger of 20 kgs, with excess baggage charged at a rate of €1 for each additional kilo.Tickets cost around €99 (for a return fare) with a 50% reduction for Hungarian citizens and children aged 6-15 years. For further information and/or reservations in Hungary telephone MAHART on: 484 4027 or visit www.mahartpassnave.hu
