More than 50 trains a day provide direct links between Budapest and 25 other capital cities. Trains to Vienna run every three hours. There is also a popular network of Inter City trains linking Budapest with the main Hungarian centres. Most international trains arrive at and leave from Keleti station, but always check the station when making bookings.
Hungarian trains are clean and punctual but not quite up to other European railways' standards, and hardly luxurious, so bring along snacks and drinks for longer journeys. Although most international trains arrive at and leave from Keleti station, they also use the other two largest stations, so always check the station when making bookings.
The Hungarian State Railway (MÁV) links to the European rail network, with different stations handling various destinations.
